Once again, another assault claim throughout rugby league. This time it’s Melbourne Storm superstar Greg Inglis’s time in the spot light.
It is understood the assault case against the Melbourne Storm player will rely on what he told police during a lengthy interview on Monday.
Other witnesses may also be called regarding the alleged assault at a house early on Sunday including Greg Inglis‘s ex girlfriend.
Inglis is charged with assaulting and intentionally causing injury to his girlfriend Sally Robinson.
Ms Robinson, however, was re-interviewed by police on Thursday about the incident after she sought the advice of criminal law firm Galbally Rolfe. Detectives investigating the case were handed a new statement detailing what allegedly led to the bruising she received to her face.
It has been reported the statement may clear the Melbourne Storm player of the charges.
The Storm boss confirmed Inglis was expected to be re-interviewed by police next week. A police spokesman said the case would proceed based on the evidence but conceded it would be difficult to gain a final conviction without the help of witnesses.
A mention hearing is scheduled for August 26 at Sunshine Magistrate’s Court. Melbourne Storm has since banned Inglis from playing for the club, and will dish out punishment when police investigation has come to a conclusion.
