The controversial no-try

The controversial no-try

By Angry Shark Supporter

There I watched with my friends a match that would have to be regarded as one of the best matches played in the 2009 NRL season. That’s what I thought when Bulldogs teenage center, Jamal Idris scored that last minute try. That was until Jamie Soward started to whine and complain about being “obstructed” by Greg Eastwood in the pursuit of Bulldog fullback Luke Patten, which led Tony Archer going to the Video Ref Steve Clark, in turn, leading to Idris being denied that courageous would-be try.
Obstruction by Eastwood? I will say something, Soward has had my respect for a long time, I thought he was the type to represent NSW but after that whinge, I would be embarrassed to follow NSW if he were in the team.

What caught my attention was what Bulldogs’ coach Kevin Moore said after the match about Soward, “He made a bigger attempt to get to the referee at the end of the field to complain. I feel my players have been really hard done by tonight … they could have and should have won that game.”

Indeed they should have won against the Dragons, but typical Soward had to put his ten cents and open his big yap and basically conned the ref to award the game to the Dragons. Pathetic.

That match made me think twice about watching footy again. If footy now has come down to a simple whiff of breath on a defender it’s an obstruction.

Isn’t the NRL supposed to train referees?
Steve Clark made a mistake, a stupid and dumb mistake which will cost him his job.
Referee Boss Robert Finch has even admitted that Steve Clark got the decision horribly wrong, “From my review of the video, I am of the opinion it should have been awarded,” Finch said on Saturday.

What’s funny is that earlier the year the Doggies made a mistake and lost 2 points, yet, the official made a mistake and the Doggies lost 2 points yet nothing can be done.

What happened that night has made me think twice about watching the dragons and claiming them as underdogs. I’d rather do my math homework than watch Soward act out another Golden Globe winning performance in “how to convince the ref that Greg Eastwood held me back while I ran into him.”

I don’t really care if I’m biased or whatever, I’m just stating the obvious because some can’t.

I admit Dragons have been playing top footy than they have in a long time and they do deserve to be where they are on the ladder, just not after Friday night. One player who has impressed me a lot is Brett Morris, he is one player that can win the game from nothing, he’s what any coach wants out of a winger/center/fullback, he’s got speed, agility, great handling and a jump that makes AFL players look like they need springs on their feet just to go to his height.

Besides all that drama, there was a positive out of that game, Hazem El-Masri’s 300th game. Congratulations for that great achievement!

Well Dragons better get ready once you cross Tom Ugly’s Bridge one thing for sure is that I don’t think the Sharks will be in the right mood to watch Soward prance around.
